The ”concept album kings” Queensryche is back again with a new album titled American Soldier and I must say that I am impressed. Queensryche was formed in the early 80s and have always been close to the top of metal. This is their 10th studio album since the self titled debut in 1983. With the strong “Operation: Mindcrime” in their catalogue they have to prove that they still can make excellent albums. Operation: Mindcrime is one of the top 10 best metal albums of all time.

Two weeks after their debut album The Doors played a two-night stand at The Matrix, a small San Francisco nightclub. The place was nearly empty, so Jim Morrison & Co took a rare opportunity to improvise and experiment, and that is the reason why this recording is so different and cool. 
Ry Cooder is well know for his slide guitar and he has his feets in the American roots music. Cooder was also ranked number 8 on "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" by Rolling Stone magazine. Not bad.
Describe this CD with two words – guitar album! Grooving is another keyword… And funky. There is enough tasty guitar riffs and searing solos to satisfy the most discriminating six string fan here, but without making it too much. This is the album every wannab-guitar-hero would like to do.
I was looking around for a multi effects pedal. I considered the Boss Me-50 amongst other things, and as much as I don't doubt it is worth what it costs, it was just too much. 
ZZ Top was one of my favourite bands in the mid 80s and the reason for this was their albums Eleminator and Afterburner. It is now 25 years since they did Eleminator and it still holds the time.
